However, despite the large viewership, the series failed to impress people with the VIP characters.
Who were the VIPs in Squid Game?
The VIPs were the wealthy, masked characters who bet on the life of the player who participated in the game. In the new season, the VIPs took their sadistic game to new depths by disguising themselves as guards and engaging in brutal violence, including putting a baby in harm’s way. Despite their role, the unnatural, almost cartoonish quality of their voices also drew criticism, with many viewers feeling that they didn’t sound like real actors.
The masked VIPs in Squid Game were brought to life by five real actors, each representing a different country, including the US, the UK, France, and China. Recently, one of the VIPs, Bryan Bucco, who portrayed the American VIP, spoke out about his experience playing the role. He responded to a TikTok video poking fun at the VIPs’ appearance, sharing his thoughts on the matter.
The actor revealed that it was not their original voice that the audience heard in the series and said, ‘Those are the English dubs. I was the actual actor. What’s being played here isn’t my voice.” When a fan asked why their voices were dubbed, the actor replied that it may be the region and revealed that some actors’ voices were different in the show than in the original.
While fans called the VIPs useless, Bryan Bucco agreed and wished the makers had put in some more details about the characters. Despite this, he added that her enjoyed filming with Lee Byung-hun, who played the role of Front Man in Squid Game.
