S Shankar announced Velpari to be a global thing after the flop of his last release. The dream project is based on a historical novel. The director aims to break records with Velpari, rivaling with global hits like Game of Thrones and Avatar.
S Shankar’s previously released Game Changer starring top Indian stars including Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, Jayaram, S.J. Suryah, and others, didn’t receive a positive response from the audiences and was a flop at the box office. The Telugu film reportedly minted a total of Rs 185 crore worldwide, while the net collection in India was Rs 130 crore, with the contribution of over Rs 32 crore from the Hindi version. Making a directional comeback, S Shankar has announced the making of his dream project, Velpari, based on a historical novel. The director confirmed his upcoming big project at a recent event, where he revealed that his dream project was Enthiran, but now his soul belongs to Velpari. He promises there will be no other release bigger than the historical drama.
S Shankar bets biggest release with Velpari
S Shankar attended a recent event as a guest for the novel Velpari, which sold around 1 lakh copies. The director revealed his dream projects and promised the audience that Velpari would be a global thing. “Once, my dream project was Enthiran. Now, my dream project is Velpari. Whenever a big-budget movie is made, people say it would be a grand venture like Chandralekha, but truly, Velpari will be as big, if not bigger, than that,” he said.
He further talked about his planning with Velpari and his aims to make it a hit like no other. “As far as I believe, this film could be one of the biggest ventures ever made, owing to the elements of costume, art, and the level of production it will require. However, the scope of technology makes me say that Velpari would be a global-standard movie, on par with the likes of Game of Thrones or Avatar,” he added.
Rajinikanth’s expectations for S Shankar’s upcoming release
Superstar Rajinikanth, who attended the event as the chief guest, praised S Shankar for his contribution to films and appreciated his efforts in the growth of Tamil cinema.
What is the Velpari film about?
Velpari is based on a historical novel named Veera Yuga Nayagan Vel Pari, written by Su Venkatesan. The story revolves around Vel Paari, a legendary ruler who has been fighting against three mighty Tamil dynasties- Chera, Chola, and Pandya.
