Mohit Suri – The director
Mohit Suri is a well-established filmmaker of Bollywood. He started off as an assistant director to Vikram Bhatt in the year 2001. He later marked his debut as a director in the year 2005 with the film Zeher. Since then, he has been delivering some major hits Woh Lamhe, Awarapan, Ek Villain and more.
Saiyaara hits theatres
He is currently in news as his movie Saiyaara has hit theatres. The movie marks the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The film is receiving positive response only. Along with the stars, Mohit Suri too has been promoting the movie with full power. In one of his recent interviews, he shared some interesting trivia about his movie Kalyug.
Kalyug story
Kalyug was the movie that launched Kunal Kemmu in the film industry. The movie released in 2005 and it was a revenge drama. It revolved around a man who wanted to seek revenge after his wife died by suicide after their honeymoon video went viral.
Amrita Singh was going through divorce with Saif Ali Khan
In an interview with Radio Nasha, Mohit Suri recalled how Amrita Singh’s casting was done in Kalyug. She played the Simi Roy – the main villain in the movie. Mohit Suri recalled that Amrita Singh was going through a divorce with Saif Ali Khan when he approached her for the movie.
Mohit Suri changed his mind?
He further said that he narrated the script to Amrita Singh and she said that she would sign the movie. He initially wanted her character to be someone who dominated a male-dominated industry. I told Kunal to immediately turn the car around, saying we made a mistake and needed to go back. We returned, and I told her, ‘We made a mistake, ma’am. You be exactly who you are, we want you just like that.’
Amrita Singh’s reaction
Surprisingly, Amrita Singh was also of the same opinion. She said, ‘Yes, I was thinking the same, that who can dominate me? I am already dominating.’ And I said, ‘Yes, yes, we want you exactly as you are,’ as revealed by Mohit Suri.
