Sham Kaushal, the father of actor Vicky Kaushal and a renowned action director in Bollywood, shared the darkest moments of his life after being diagnosed with cancer in 2003. In a candid conversation, Sham Kaushal revealed that his world turned upside down after he heard about the deadly disease. He confessed that he thought of ending his life, feeling consumed by the situation. He shared that he wanted to end his life by jumping off the hospital building, but failed due to surgical pain in his abdomen. Talking about his diagnosis, Sham revealed that he experienced pain in his stomach while shooting Lakshya with Hrithik Roshan, which he ignored at first. Later, while shooting Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose with Shyam Benegal, he felt severe pain and was rushed to the hospital immediately, where the doctors informed him about the surgery.

In a podcast with Amar Aujla, Sham Kaushal said that the doctors gave him several medicines and operated on him the next morning. His operation went on for about three hours, and after three days, he regained his senses. He further revealed that the operation didn’t give his family the relief. Everyone around him looked tense as the doctor revealed that he had been diagnosed with a deadly disease and wouldn’t be able to survive. Recalling his experience, he said, “They informed me in the evening, and at night, I had this wild thought of jumping from the third floor of the hospital where my room was situated. I didn’t make the decision out of weakness, but thought, when I have to die anyway, why not now? But I couldn’t move due to the pain post-surgery.”
Sham shared his conversation with almighty God and said that he asked him to take away his life instantly as he didn’t want to live a life for his family where he is weak, and said if possible, give him 10 more years as his kids are really young. “I had asked God to bless me with 10 more years, but today it has been 22 years. That phase changed my life. I met several good people. I received good work. My kids have been doing well. I grew in life,” he said.
Sham Kaushal has worked as an action director in multiple films including Krrish, Padmaavat, Gangs of Wasseypur, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, PK, Sanju, Tiger Zinda Hai, Simmba, and others.
