Homebound, which is Neeraj Ghaywan’s comeback film, recently had its screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 in May 2025. It was also selected at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in the Gala Presentation. Homebound is now all ready to hit the big screens on September 26. The film is produced by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla and follows the life of two young boys who are best friends in a small village in northern India. The boys both share a single dream of becoming police officers, as they believe that the profession will help them gain the dignity and respect that has been denied to them for so long.
When and where can you watch the film?
The movie has its screening in the Cannes Film Festival of 2025. It was selected at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in the Gala Presentation too.
Now, the film is all set to hit the theaters on September 26, 2025.
Though the date for the OTT release of the film hasn’t been decided yet, usually movies hit the OTT platforms around 8 weeks after the theatrical release. So, the film is expected to be released on OTT platforms in around November.

Homebound at Cannes
The film had gotten a nine-minute standing ovation from the audience at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Neeraj had said the film is “a deeply personal story about friendship, dignity, and survival. He had reportedly said, “It’s about people who are often unseen and the quiet strength they carry in a world that rarely pauses for them. I hope the film helps us look closer—with empathy—and see what we’ve been conditioned to ignore.”
Homebound at the Academy Awards 2026
The announcement for the selection of the film as the official entry of India for the 2026 Academy Awards was made on September 19. The announcement was made by the selection committee chairperson, N. Chandra.
During a press conference that took place in Chennai, N. Chandra declared that 24 films were considered before Homebound was chosen as the official entry. He said, “It was a very difficult choice. These were films that touched the lives of people,” he said, adding, “We were not judges but coaches. We were searching for players who have made their mark.”
The committee of 12 members included directors, writers, producers, editors, and journalists.
