As children, Lisa Jolly and her now-husband Avesh Thuluvath were neighbours in Baltimore, but neither recalls it. “Our love story is one of fate, family connections, and serendipity,” says Lisa, whose grandmother often joked that the two were meant to be, a running gag between grandma and Avesh’s mom. Eventually, Lisa and Avesh moved to different cities. Although linked by their families, they never crossed paths until Avesh saw a video of Lisa’s heartfelt maid-of-honour speech at her sister’s wedding. “It was the moment that sealed it for me,” he says. Promptly, he asked his cousin, who knew Lisa’s sister, to introduce them. “That was the beginning of something that had quietly been in motion for decades,” he says. “His cousin and I had a feeling they’d click—we were right,” says the bride’s sister Neena. “Lisa has become more grounded and present with Avesh,” she adds.

Avesh proposed in 2023, three years after their first date. When it was time to make matters official, the Manhattan-based doctors—Lisa is a craniofacial orthodontist and Avesh is a transplant hepatologist—envisioned an intimate Syro-Malabar-influenced wedding, set in Barcelona, a city where they spent a month together in 2023.
