Anurag Kashyap hits out at Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series for…: ‘They paid…’

Anurag Kashyap, a popular and critically acclaimed filmmaker, has often courted controversies for his candid thoughts on issues and film fraternity. In a recent interview with The Juggernaut, he talked about not being paid well for the music of his movies Dev D, Gangs Of Wasseypur, and Gulal by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. The director also showed no qualms in mentioning that the music label can’t understand good music, and that they pay only for stars.
What did Anurag Kashyap say?
Anurag said, “The idea is not to cater to the market. If T-Series, Bhushan Kumar, is not buying it, then it is good music. T-Series doesn’t buy good music at a good price. They paid very less for Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur or Gulaal.” He further mentioned that they don’t pay for the quality of music.
Anurag Kashyap paid nothing for Dev D music?
Anurag also added that he was paid nothing for Dev D music. “Ask the producers, UTV studios… they don’t understand what’s good music,” he added. As Anurag said, they are keen on paying money for a certain kind of music and only push for it.
Was Anurag Kashyap paid well for Bombay Velvet?
The filmmaker also admitted the fact that he was paid well, also ‘the highest’ by T-Series for Ranbir Kapoor’s Bombay Velvet. For the unversed, Anurag had directed the film. “As music, it was very good, but it worked the least for them.”
Bombay Velvet had made massive buzz because it featured Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. After its release, the film got mixed reviews and didn’t succeed in performing well at the box office. However, Amit Trivedi’s music was lauded by the viewers. He had also created music for Kashyap’s Dev D, for which he bagged the National Award for Best Music Direction.
