The upcoming mythological animated movie “Mahavatar Narsimha,” directed by Ashwin Kumar will hit the theatres on July 25, 2025. The movie has been inspired from three ancient texts, according to director Ashwin and is expected to make a huge impact on the movie-goers. Interestingly it will be a franchise in itself as the makers Hombale Films and Kleem Productions has unveiled the line up of their animated “Mahavatar Cinematic Universe”, which will showcase a series of Lord Vishnu’s 10 divine avatars. The franchise will start with Mahavatar Narsimha in 2025 and end with Mahavatar Kalki Part 2 in 2037.
Meanwhile in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Life, director Ashwin Kumar shed light on what inspired him to opt for a movie like this, what he feels about choosing a mythological genre and how he believes that the movie is going to set a standard for Indian animations and VFX.
Why director Ashwin feels Mahavatar Narsimha will set standards for Indian animations?
When asked about why he opted for a animated movie and why he feels that the movie will set a standard for Indian animation and VFX, the director said, “If you look at the Indian animation industry, we do have people from here who are offering their services to various Hollywood movies. But if we look at our own indigenous industry, then animation is yet to make its impact full-fledgedly. And we need to change this. That’s what Mahavatar Narsimha, as an animation movie, is striving to do. Its like a revival of the animation industry in India, which has been lost somewhere from the past so many years.”

The director was also asked about his experience as he had to go through different ancient texts to make the movie. To that, Ashwin said, “It was tough and interesting at the same time. Now a days people don’t read ancient texts. So how will they understand it. It is very important to preserve these texts. That is why we opted for this…”
He continued, “It is very important for us to restore the texts and to take them to the masses. So with the help of this film, we also want to share the source, from where the scenes are inspired; so after the film’s release, we will be sharing the source of the scenes on our website as well.”
“So people who are curious may read them from our website. That’s the idea behind the entire structure of Mahavatar Universe, so that audience could know that this is authentic and verified.”
Why films with spiritual angles doing well?
Speaking about why films with spiritual angles are doing well, Ashwin said, “This is a land of Bharat and we have our gods, who are our real heros. If we bring back our ancient gods, then people will know what our true culture is…and our audiences are actually waiting to see them on the big screen. So if these kind of angles are there in any movie, it becomes a hit at the box office. According to me, people are eager for this kind of content because we are rooted in culture.”

The epic conflict between the demon ruler Hiranyakashipu, who wants to exact revenge on Lord Vishnu, and his devoted son Prahlad is the main focus of the narrative.
