Days after a kiss cam video involving Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and head of HR Kristin Cabot went viral and raised rumours of an affair, Andy resigned from his post. An official company statement announcing the resignation was released on Saturday. “As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,” the company said. “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”
Andy Byron suing Coldplay?
Following the incident, rumours have been doing rounds on social media that Byron is thinking of suing Coldplay or the concert organisers.
One viral post alleged, “Astronomer CEO Andy Byron is considering suing the Coldplay concert organizers, claiming a ‘private moment’ was turned into a public spectacle without his consent after the viral video leak.”
Another claimed, “Astronomer CEO, Andy Byron Calls his Viral Affair Video ‘AI-Generated.’ He said he will be suing. Coldplay.”
What happened at the Coldplay concert?
The scandal began earlier this week, when Byron and Cabot were captured in an intimate moment on a stadium camera during a Coldplay performance at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
The footage shows Byron hugging Cabot from behind as the camera pans to them. When the two realised they were on the big screen, they seemed like they wanted to slip out of sight.
Coldplay lead vocalist Chris Martin responded to the incident in real time, saying, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just really shy.” Moments later, recognising the consequences, Martin said, “Oh s–t, I hope we didn’t do something bad.”
Byron and Cabot place on administrative leave
The video rapidly went viral on social media, fueling suspicion about an alleged romance between Byron and Cabot. The public’s attention grew when it was learned that both are married. Both Byron and Cabot were put on administrative leave shortly after the video went viral. Then Byron resigned from his position.
