Smriti Irani recently gave an interview in which she told the host that she received her first paycheck by working at McDonald’s.
Smriti Irani is a household name at this point. The actor-turned-politician has earned fame, respect, and a following in both her careers. The actress started her career by playing Tulsi Virani in the famous soap opera, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. With the show, she became very famous very soon. She was a highly sought-after actress in the Indian television industry when she left her acting career and joined politics. Now, she is currently serving as a member of Rajya Sabha for Gujarat. Over the course of time, she has proven that she can do just as much work in politics as she could in her acting career.
Smriti Irani’s first job at McDonalds
Her fans had been hoping for a comeback of the legendary Tulsi, and she did not disappoint them at all. She can be seen in the reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, retaking her role as Tulsi Virani. Recently, she interacted with the actress Soha Ali Khan on her podcast All About Her and talked about different phases and parts of her life. During the conversation, Smriti told the host that her father sponsored her Femina Miss India pageant, and she had promised him that she would pay him back the money.
In order to pay her father back, she was desperate to find a job. She first went to Jet Airways, where she was told that she lacked the personality to be an air hostess. Then, she applied for a job at McDonald’s in order to pay her father back.
Smriti’s first paycheck
When Smriti was told that only her last round of the interview was left, she asked the person taking her interview what her job’s description would be. She was told that her responsibilities would entail mopping the floor and cleaning the dishes.
When Smriti asked about her paycheck, she was told that she would get 1500 rupees, with a burger during the break. Smirit told the host that she just wanted the job to pay her father back. In her own words, “I had no such ambition that I would be some Meena Kumari. I just wanted to succeed.”
Smriti Irani on being the highest-paid television actress in India
In another throwback interview with Neelesh Misra, Smriti Irani thought back to her earlier days when she had just joined the telly world. She said that her daily wage was merely Rs. 1800 and that her makeup artist used to be embarrassed for her since she used to travel in an auto, while he had a car. Eventually, the actor-politician proved herself in both aspects of her career.
Currently, after her working in the reboot of Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she is reportedly the highest-paid Indian telly actress. According to reports, she is earning Rs. 14 lakh per episode. Smriti Irani gave an interview to CNN-News 18, where she confirmed that she was the highest-paid Indian actress in the TV industry, but she refused to disclose the exact amount.
Whatever the exact amount of the paycheck might be, Smriti has proven one thing. It is that hard work definitely pays off.
