Ajay Devgn goes full throttle in this family entertainer that hits all the right notes of emotion, comedy, drama, and proud Punjabi swag. This commercial is loaded with music, romance, story and performance roots in family values, clean humour, stunning visuals, and an amazing story.
Ajay Devgn aka Jaswinder “Jassi” Singh Randhawa, is beaming with love and confidence as he is married to Dimple (Neeru Bawja), who lives in London. Excited for a reunion to meet his wife, Jassi jet off to London. But the reunion turns into a unexpected heartbreak when Dimple introduces him to her boyfriend, not only she wants a divorcee from Jassi, she even kicks him out of the house.
Jassi, who is now homeless and devastated in a foreign country, Rabia (Mrunal Thakur), a Pakistani businesswoman who runs a company of wedding dancers with Gul (Deepak Dobriyal), Mehwish (Kubbra Sait) and Danish (Chunky Panday).
Rabia and Jassi hits it off, a chance encounter quickly spirals into a comically chaotic adventure.
Rabia’s manager Danish has a daughter Saba (Roshni Walia), she is in love with Goggi (Sahil Mehta), the son of the ultra-traditional Raja Sandhu (Ravi Kishan).
Apart from being rich and moderately conservative, Raja Sandhu is old school, he wants a traditional Indian girl with family values for his son. But Rabia and her family is from Pakistani, the only Indian in sight is Jassi. And that’s when Rabia hatches a horrible but well intended plan, Jassi must pretend to be Saba’s Indian father, who is an army officer with family values to that the entire Sandhu clan can be convinced. But soon the plans spirals out of control, leading to never ending disastrous situation, more lies to cover pervious lies, awkward conversations, and cross cultural confusion, all stitched together with warmth and clean comedy.
As usual, Ajay Devgn steals the show with his impeccable comic timing. Whether he’s fumbling through fabricating stories about his army exploits or lying with deadpan humour, he carries every scene with charisma and confidence.
This is first commercial outing for Mrunal Thakur, and she nails it. She shines in her role of Rabia with grace, charm, and confidence. Seasoned actor Deepak Dobriyal is the film’s biggest surprise. He plays the role of Gul, a transgender, he compliments his role with humanity and purity.
Performance by Ravi Kishan as Raja Sandhu is delicious, wooing audience with a perfect blend of Bihari swag and Punjabi flair is hilarious and unforgettable.
The supporting cast is brilliant, adding emotional depth with their nuanced performances, Sanjay Mishra, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, Vindu Dara Singh, Ashwini Kalsekar, Dolly Ahluwalia, and the late Mukul Dev, offers a brilliant energy to the film.
With scenes The film is set across the scenic landscapes of Scotland, London, and India, so it is needless to say it is visually vibrant. The colours and cultural textures adds a soothing effect to the chaotic story.
The film is packed with powerful and hit numbers. Songs like Pehla Tu Duja Tu, Nazar Battu, and Nachdi are catchy, and integrated into the story, not a single soundtrack.
Pulling off a story with such a massive ensemble could easily go wrong with director Vijay Kumar Arora holds the fort with confidence and finesse, he doesn’t losses focus in any scene. He gives each character their space, balances multiple plotlines smoothly, and takes the sequel a notch higher in terms of storytelling and execution.
